Did you read the new mini projector version?. He says 12 foot screen but good luck with that. Imagine you build yourself a sphere or cylinder to stand in with the projector in the gun might work, or maybe better with head mounted projector. I can also see getting realy tired and RSI holding that gun up to your cheek for a while.

Looks like the tracking on that thing works really well. I think he said it was a gyration mouse (I'm not sure that's what he said) taped to the gun. The nice thing about it is that you don't care if the tracker drifts since the monitor is attached to the gun.
On the second video, he talks about attaching three projectors on the gun or the head. I'm guessing pico projectors. Would that work? I mean, projectors usually have a small depth of field so you have to focus them for the distance between them and the screen. I don't see how you would keep the picture focused with projectors that you keep moving.

As he said, I wonder if this really is the most cost effective price/performance solution for head tracking.
A little bulky, but I'm sure we can strip away all the buttons and ergonomic casing etc.
There is a wireless version too for a small price hike.
Better than the likes if the TrackerIR I'm willing to wager... still haven't managed to lose the sour taste that purchase left behind
If it's using the same kind of accelerometers then it should be at least on par with the old z800's offering which was damn good from what I recall... perhaps a perfect solution for everyone who has the newer HMDs and want head tracking

Not better than the TrackIR for stereo3d since trackIr is head tracking rather than gun tracking and suits 3d perfectly since small head movements translate to big fov changes. Better for this scenario would be something like the "LCD TopGun". But then, there needs to be something compatible with this setup really (3d cave with motion tracking):

I had no idea the LCD TopGun could be used with a PC via gun2mouse software, I have wanted something like this which is affordable for a long time now. I have a few questions that I hope you can answer please.
Do you know if it can be used for playing first person shooters in an HMD? I like to stand and move about 360 degrees, the would the tracking work with 360 degrees movement?
I like this gun as it reminds me of the time crisis arcade gun as it's got a sliding top half which moves back and forwards every time you fire like on a real gun. Do you know how powerful the feeling? Does this part of the gun use batteries or mains?
I have seen two versions of this gun one is called the LCD TopGun and the other is called the RF TopGun, this latter gun looks different, does it still have that sliding top for recoil that you find on the LCD TopGun?
The LCD TopGun looks very cool and I could see getting one just for fun. However it would not be usable with an HMD for full 360-degree gaming. It appears to work similar to the way the Wii works (with an IR sensor-bar) so you are limited to the line of sight with the sensors.

Thanks for the reply
I had pointed out that there are 2 versions, the one with the RF dongle seems to work in full 360 degrees.

The RF version works the same way, except its wireless. That doesn't change the fact you still need a line of sight to the sensor. The RF version also lacks the recoil and doesn't have the laser pointer (and needs batteries obviously). Other than that it looks like the same design.

That is a real shame, it nearly had all the features to make it the best gun on the market. This gun was released several years ago, I wonder if the company behind it are making a new gun. I also wonder if anyone could mod this gun to make it work in full 360 degrees with HMD's, is it difficult to do?
Hey you know that gun is from Bob , the trimersion gun! So what he prob did was took the tracking device out of the helmet like I did and put it on the gun, it's alittle board with a small gyro on it. The gun takes 4 aa batteries, turn the gun on and the switch for tracking to sync with the receiver and boom a tracking gun with keyboard functions, I tried the gyro mouse and bought a hagstrom kb board but for the price for both and work needed, you can grab the trimersions off ebay for under $100, the gun itself is well worth the money. My gun I did 5 years ago cost $200, Bob did a good job on his gun design.
I could be wrong though how that guy is using his gun for tracking but he doesn't have to do any hacking to it if he said he has.
Just wanted to add my 2cents in. But his idea is pretty cool!!
