test: stéréoscopic clips on the web

Post by anotherFrench »

hello all, I wasn't sure where to post this but I'd like to show what I found, it's possible to view interlaced 3D clips directly from the web, no need to download them.
I could try this only with the zalman trimon but I think it should work with any system compatible with the intelaced format.
I posted it on a french site so here is how it works:

1: set your zalman to it's native resolution and verifie that your internet browser's level of zoom is set to zero.
2: go to: http://stereo3d.free.fr/spip.php?article38&lang=fr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; errrr no forget that, just look below
3: start a vidéo in "HD" mode but keep it in a window, it won't work in full screen
4: verifie that each view is where it belong (left & right place) if it's not, scrolling the page up/down just a little should invert them
5: sorry about the quality of the vidéos, those are my first tests and I still have much to learn before I can make better ones

voila, it works with the zalman but if some of you can test it with other solution, please send me a feedback nad tell me if you needed to do something special to get it to work, especially with the interlaced shutter mode of IZ3D drivers

ps: I tryed to post 1 of them directly here but I don't know if it is possible to show youtube vidéos in mtbs forum

YES! it works fine on my zalman trimon 22" at native res, I hope it will work with edimensional glasses too if the ED-controller is set to "interleave"

well done sharky and thank you very much.
do you think it will be possible for users to post some vidéos ?

1 question, in order to post them on the french site, I had to resize them or it wouldn't work in 3D, did you have to do that when you posted them here?

i made some changes to the code. now everybody has youtube and youtube 720p available as posting option.

now in order to post bigger clips like those above you have to do what i sent you via pm and that will be limited to certain users.

well, it may be a little complicated to post them in interlaced 3D, when I first uploaded those 2 vids on youtube, they were in 720p but somehow I guess the result got bigger... (800p high) and I don't know why or how this happened so the vids had to be resized in the embeded viewer in order for the lines of the interlaced vids to keep in synch with the lines of the filter of the screen (zalman trimon 22")

it works but somehow it also hurts my eyes badly. The encoding breaks the interlacing.

thanx yuriythebest, yes those are my vidéos but I'm very new at making them.
I just made my 2 cams rig to capture in 3D but all of this is still very experimental for me  as I'm still learning.

about the quality of the vidéo, I had to keep a big res (720p) but I didn't want the files to be too large to keep them usable on the net so I tryed to find the right compromise but that also I still have to learn.

blackshark, yes it's not very good yet but I hope others will post beter vidéos as I will need much more time to learn all that stuff, the essential is that it is possible to post 3D vidéo directly on a forum, that will be great and even greater if we can make it work with other viewing systems than zalman screens :)

Holy smokes Batman, that works nicely with eDimensional shooter glasses, CRT and the E-D Activator (E-D.exe).
(Nvidia 3D driver disabled + Interleved, Stereo normal, LCD mode 1).
Your YouTube videos were in 3D 8)

Edit: And so are 3D videos (interlaced) when played with Winamp and this interlaced picture:

great, I was hoping it would but I really wasn't sure!!
thanx for testing Freke1, now we know it works even with some shutters :shutter
I wonder if something could be arranged to make it work with the nvidia glasses but I don't have much info on them and I don't know if they have or support any interlaced modes

ps: I'm also wondering if this will work with IZ3D screen too, anyone to test it?

It can't work directly with the iZ3D monitor. The easiest way to look at an interlaced video or picture with the iZ3D monitor is to load it in iZ3D Media Player and set it to interlaced stereo format.
CPU : Intel i7-7700K
RAM : 32 GB ram
Video card : GeForce GTX 980 Ti
OS : Windows 10

HMD : Oculus Rift

Freke1, yes, that's how I found the trick, I opened by mistake a 3D interlaced pic in a 2d viewer and was amazed to see it worked, so I tried a vidéo in vlc and it worked too, the problem with the size of the interlaced lines appeared only when I tryed to view it in full-screen, that's how I understood that it was just a question of resizing the vids corectly so I tryed it with youtube.. only problem was that youtube resize the vids a little so I had to embed it with the right size on another site... then the next step was of course to try it on MTBS

I just saw your picture, it works perfectly but I have to move up or down my browser to get the left & right views where they belong as they invert positions when you do that.

Tril, that's bad news, I was hoping this would work on as many system possible but still I'm glad it works with zalman and edim (the 2 systems I have  ) and I think it's safe now to say there's a big chance it will work with everything that supporte interlaced 3D

well if you post side by side videos then it works.. :) just need to be on vista with drivers on, and then put the video fullscreen. tested it myself.

basically you can look at posted youtube videos, they just need to ahve the right format.

so maybe a tweak in the drivers could make it work with interlaced vidéos?

I can't show a pic now as it is disassembled but you are right, it's 2 aiptek Z600 that I mounted side by side, I made it with the help of ITOU from the french forum hardware.fr, here is his rig, I made exactly the same with z600's:

thanx yuriythebest, I think this 1 is not as bad as the others, probably because it's shorter LOL
but seriously, I'm not too happy with the results, I want to learn how to get beter results so I need much more practise and to read more about 3D capturing

Re: test: stéréoscopic clips on the web

well, in order to make it work in fullscreen , I saved a vid in 1680*1050, this could help keeping a smaller window in the forum while it would still work 3D in full screen.

it works fine in vlc but as soon as I post it on youtube, the interlacement disapear :(
I already had the same problem when I uploaded a vidéo in 720p with less quality (to keep an acceptable file size) so I guess that the compression on youtube do need more quality to keep the finer lines of a higher res interlaced vidéo.
I tryed to upload 1 with better quality but even a 15 sec vidéo with a 100 mb size doesn't seem to have enough quality :(

I save them in "xvid" compression in stereoMovyMaker so do anyone know if it would be possible to make it work with some better conversion or anything?

ps: damn, when I read my own posts I really wonder if anyone else can understand what I'm talking about LOOOOL

anotherFrench - sometimes it takes time for the full quality to appear on youtube - at first you might see low quality with blended fields but just wait maybe 10-30 mins.

last night I tryed 3 differents qualities from medium till high, the "high quality vidéo was about 100mb for 15 sec playing LOL
I left them for a few hours but it didn't work.
the 1 vidéo you saw was only 720p so I could manage to solve the probleme by increasing the quality a little but at 10(0p it won't do the trick, unless maybe if it is possible to find a better way to compress it
so I think the problem is that at high resolutions the interlacement gets too fine to be rendered corectly with youtube compression unless you use an extremely high quality but then the vidéo file has to be way too big :(

ps: I just uploaded a new vid in 1680*1050, I 'll leave it there a few hours to see if it work
it's the same video as the first one I posted here, the 1 with the table but I edited it a little so I think 3D works better but it's not perfect yet, I think I tryed to much pop-up effect on that 1

pps, it's been few hours now and it's still not working but it was worth a try anyway
here the 720p version, I think it's better than the first 1

here it is, it's not finished yet, still have to cut those 2 screw and finalyse the fixation but it's veru practical that way as I can quickly change the support (handheld or tripod)

yeahhh! :woot
not that it matter anymore but I just tried it on my samsung plasma tv and it works too :)
also I don't know why, maybe it's due to the bigger size of the screen but I found they look much better, maybe those vids were not that bad after all LOL

You can try:
Compressor: ffdshow Video Codec
then configure:
Encoder: Windows Media Video 9

I used to use:
Compressor: Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Code...
then configure:
Compression Control: 100
Data Rate: 6000

but that is all after some trial and error since I basicly don't know what I'm doing. Like U I'm just trying to get the best quality.

Hi Freke1, thanx for this, I just tryed it but I think it's impossible to get perfect result in interlaced mode unless I make very huge uncompressed files.
latelly I tryed with new vidéos, the results are not really bad, it's ok in most case but I don't know why or how, everything that's in red gets huge ghosting as soon as I try to save the vidéo in interlaced mode.
I think the best solution for now is to avoid filming red objects, it's very strange
I don't have this probleme and the vidéos are much better if I save them in side by side so I guess the codecs are not very good at compressing interlaced vidéos

nice! vids are back :)
now you can see the red ghosting I was talking about...

vidéo with the table: it works ok on my screen but then you see something red (on the ground under the table) and it ghost a lot

then next vidéo, guess were the ghosting is?
