Pretty cool effect. But the statue the guy used is projected in 3d because it's a true reflection. It's more tricky with projectors. Actually i can't figure out how to make it true 3d in the reflection using one or two projectors. The image can very well "appear" in the free air but it will be flat, not 3d.

I wouldn't call it a hype. The image will appear to be "in the free air". It's just not really true 3d because of the image being flat. Or?

The Planar 3D monitor setup is a kind of Pepper's Ghost too.
They use the Pepper's Ghost illusion at the Haunted Mansion in Disney parks.

If you wanted, you could use a projector with shutter glasses. Now you would really get the feeling of seeing a 3D ghost floating in the air.
