The SID 2009 "GOLD Winner" Samsumg 240Hz LCD reviewed

Post by Silversurfer »

Wow this set is thin, 1 inch!, but can it do 3D?

HD Guru just scored the first review with the $3,200 46-inch Samsung UN46B8000. It's an LED-backlit LCD that measures just over an inch thick and refreshes images at 240Hz. HD Guru loved the display, calling it the best LCD ever.
The full motion resolution and overall excellent performance places the UN46B8000 at the top of all the LCD HDTVs tested....this Samsung is the first HDTV to deliver the dream of a thin, light weight, bright, clear 46″ large screen HDTV that you can easily hang on the wall like a painting.
Interesting factoid: If you're watching 24fps content (like a movie), each frame plays 10 times on a 240Hz display. Read that tidbit and lots more in HD Guru's meticulously detailed review of the world's new bestest LCD. [HD Guru]

Yeah its probably that bogus 240Hz, just like the Atari Jaguar was "64-bit".

Why would you want to see the same frame 10 times?

They probably calculate frames to go in between the real frames. When you watch in slow motion a video that was recorded at a normal rate, there is a visible pause between each frame and it does not look smooth. It is possible to generate frames by interpolation and put them between the recorded frame so that the video looks smooth even when played in slow motion. The same thing can be done for a video recorded and played at a normal rate and in theory it should look smoother. However, I've got no idea if it's noticeable.

Maybe it doubles as a strobe light.
