Old nVidia stereoscopic drivers

Post by soberauer »

Two questions for the intelligent people out there... :wink:

1. Which of the old nVidia stereoscopic drivers work the best (I have a 7900GTX with a 3DVisor)?

2. Can anyone recommend any games that work well with these drivers? (especially 3DVisor) I know 3DVisor has a list, but there are zillions of games out there, so I want to know which other games work well.

Doom 3 seems to work quite well. Crysis and Assassins Creed hang on my PC, and "No-one lives forever 2" has some very annoying glitches... I don't know if it's my drivers.

Good combos: 91.31 combo, 93.81 combo, 94.24 combo.
162.15 stereo+162.18 forceware is decent but can cause a few bugs. It might be the first cpumulticoresupporting driver though.
And have 162.50 with newer forcewares (also works good with multicorecpu). Last one that works ok for me is 169.21 forceware but the most recent ones might have better compability.
Different versions can make the difference between if a game works or not but usually it's more about shadows and minor stuffs changes.
Regarding newer games and old school nvidiadrivers the compability is quite bad. Try to disable all postprocessing effects, motion blur etc and give it a try again.

Hope it helps.

I had good results with the 91.31 stereo driver.

I found I had to switch off vertical sync to fix the problem I had with "No-one lives forever 2"... now to get Crysis and Assassin's Creed to work...

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I'm messing with my own setups and trying to get 3D Stereo working. Currently I've installed the 169.21 forceware and the 162.50 stereo drivers. However, there is no option to enable 3D Stereo on the Nvidia control panel. Any clues as to how to enable that?

You have to use these registry entries:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003

You have to edit your Registry to get things working? :0 Wow. GG Nvidia.

Thanks for the tip. ;)

It worked. After I swapped the Registry entries I was able to access the 3D Stereo settings and set it up... even the laser sight is running. I've only tested with UT2004 so far, but this is progress.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the help. For anyone else having similar problems, here's the steps I had to take to get it working.

1) Rebooted to Safe mode
2) Uninstalled all NVIDIA drivers
3) Rebooted to normal mode
4) Installed 169.21 Forceware
5) Rebooted
5) Installed 162.50 Stereo drivers
6) Rebooted
7) Edited the following registry entries:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003

8) Rebooted.
9) Opened Start Menu > Settings - Control Panel
10) Opened Display
11) Clicked the Settings tab
12) Clicked the Advanced button
13) Clicked the Additional Properties button

I was then able to adjust Stereo settings.

We'll see how it works with other apps!
