i am new to this 3d stuff, its pretty awesome. i watched the left 4 dead video someone posted crosseyed, lol it was great.
so im going to order some of those xforce3d glasses, prolly 4 just because theyre so inexpensive. possibly give them to friends for belated xmas gifts.
my monitor can do 1280x800 at 100hz so that should work fine, but my friends all have lcd's so i hope it works.
anywho just wanted to pop in and say hello, have a merry xmas everyone!

Welcome and merry x-mas!
The problem with shutterglasses is not only refreshrate of the monitor etc. You'll only have excellent stereodrivers for shutterglasses if you use nvidia old school drivers (winxp, 162.50stereo and forcewaredriver) and an nvidia card up to and including 7950. If you have an 8800 you can try to get it work with shutters: Some people have managed to do it. I wish you and your friends a great experience with the introduction to stereo-3D!
Cheers!

Hi and welcome If I was you I would get a pair of analygraph glasses, very cheap and will work free with IZ3D drivers, this is a old skool solution and you will be able to play games in 3D like Farcry2, and it wont give you a true 3D experaince unlike IZ3D/Zalman monitor and there are others aswell. You should see how you like Analygraph and if you enjoy this then maybe think about saving up for a better solution. Theres also shutterglasses being released by Nvidia very shortly which might be of some use, otherwise I would stay clear of shutterglasses as they only work with old CRT monitors and very old games but if this is what your looking for then maybe its work the purchase, hope you have fun

Hey snarfbot. If you get shutter-glasses make sure you have a CRT monitor and an older Nvidia card (series 7 or below). Otherwise you should try anaglyph while other solutions come to the market.

well the monitor i use is a crt, it does 1680x1050 at 85hz, 1280x800 at 100hz, and 800x600 at 120hz. my friends all have lcds though, one of them has 5ms response time, no noticeble lag and the other is 8ms i think, im not sure about input lag, since theyre both tn panels id assume there isnt any but i cant be sure.
and my videocard is ati, an hd3850, from the posts i was reading i thought it was possible to make it work with the iz3d drivers with any graphics card.
if necessary i will buy a new videocard since its about time to upgrade anyway, but id prefer not to downgrade to a 7 series geforce.
the games i play most are left 4 dead and the original day of defeat.
i really dont play many other games, cod occasionally, and the rainbow 6 games.

welp, i bought 2 pairs they should be here next week i cant wait.
it turns out that you have to pay for the iz3d driver that supports shutterglasses. but they offer a pretty generous trial period so if it works well its a fair price, especially considering how little i payed for the glasses.

well i have a few graphical glitches in source games, in some areas it will alternate between both eyes images for characters and stuff, its wierd and the background stays in 3d, otherwise its perfect, it just gets messed up in certain areas. im not sure how i can explain it much better than that.
and call of duty just stopped running with 3d mode on.
im using the new iz3d beta maybe thats it, im going to load up the older version and see if it helps.
as far as the 3d effect goes, its leaps and bounds better than anaglyph. at 100hz there is some flicker but it doesnt really bother me, any lower than that and it really gets ugly though, i tried 60hz just to see what it would be like lol. its seizure causing bad.
ive never used any other shutter glasses so i dont have much to compare it to but for 10 dollars they are definitely worth it, theyre comfortable too, the kinda press themselves to the side of your head rather than rest on your ears, like those old koss headphones, and they dont rest on your nose at all.
im not sure how long they will last so id get em while u can!

The oddness you describe might be desync. Our driver can't currently sync the signal unless the FPS in game matches, or goes above, your refresh rate.
So, if you have 100hz you need 100FPS in game, if it dips below that for a second, it can desync the left/right.

heh, ya i never had the pleasure of using their driver. i lowered the settings a bit, and dropped the refresh rate down to 85 and now its working much better, no more glitches. very little ghosting too im really happy with these glasses. so far there are only 2 games i tried that didnt work, call of duty 4 and bioshock. source games worked great, need for speed prostreet worked alright, resident evil 4 worked perfectly. i have a few more im going to test out as well.
