4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
Hello to all,
i want to buy the new Optoma UHD42/ UHD50X to play 1080p/60Hz in 3D. There is an explanation by Pauldusler (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/fo ... 0x1080-12/) where he uses a 3D Vision Emitter to unlock "Generic CRT" In Nvidia Control Panel. However, i don't have an emitter.
Currently i use an Acer H6518BD (1080p/24Hz, 720p/60Hz, 3DTV Play). I can get 1080p/30Hz by changing "stereoviewertype" to 1 in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D" to circumvent 24Hz limitation of 3DTV Play, if i'm right this activates frame sequential output. Does anybody know if this works for the UHD42 to get 1080p/60Hz 3d?
I searched a lot but couldn' find anything helpful, sorry if i'm missing anything, thanks in advance.

Re: 4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
I have the uhd 40 which is similar and I wasn't able to get frame sequiantal to work in games without the emitter. The emitter serves like a license dongle to unlock generic crt mode / frame sequential. I would look on ebay if you can get a cheap 3d vision kit from there. Please consider that for uhd 42 you need to apply an edid override as well for unlocking generic crt.

What if an edid with ID from one of the monitors with a built-in emitter is used? If the driver thinks that it's a 3D Vision monitor that already has a built-in emitter, it won't require the external USB emitter.Pauldusler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 2:48 am Please consider that for uhd 42 you need to apply an edid override as well for unlocking generic crt.

You will still need the emitter. Edid is not enough!

Did you try it or is it just a guess? If you tried, what ID did you use for your EDID?

It would probably be better if you describe what you're trying to do or start a seperate thread. From an outsiders perspective, it's difficult to know if you're trying to answer the same question as the OP. By extension therefore, you might be trying to solve a different problem?

I'm not trying to do anything. I'm only giving a suggestion that might help the OP to use the projector without the 3D Vision Emitter. I don't have a projector myself, so I can't try it to know if it works for sure.russellk wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 12:54 pm It would probably be better if you describe what you're trying to do or start a seperate thread. Hey guys, I'm using 3dtv play on a 3dtv. I noticed the OP said he can get 1080p 30hz framepacking on 3dtv play. Is this true, I'm limited to 24hz? I tried modifying the mentioned registry but I don't see 30hz 3d resolution to select in the nvidia control panel. 30hz 1080p would be really cool to try in some slow paced games. Otherwise I'll continue to use 720p60 of side-by-side.

Re: 4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
Thanks for the response and sorry for beeing late. the new projector arrived an it works, 1080p/ 60Hz 3d without emitter. for anyone interested a more detailed instruction can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comment ... hout_3dtv/
In NVControlPanel you have to select a "PC" resolution, e.g. 1080/120, not a 3d resolution. now start your game and make sure it runs @ 1080/120, i take msi afterburner. now you want to alt+tab out of the game and change the reg key. if you first change the reg key and then start the game it will be reset by the system. go back to game, turn on 3d in your TVs/ Projectors menu and you should have 1080/60 3d.

Thanks for the confirmation, always good to know what options there are and how they work. Plus, glad you got it sorted!knarFleinaD wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 5:13 am Thanks for the response and sorry for beeing late. the new projector arrived an it works, 1080p/ 60Hz 3d without emitter. for anyone interested a more detailed instruction can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comment ... hout_3dtv/

I'd be really interested in hearing more about which model you purchased, what type of screen you have and how the 3d vision experience compares to other displays or projectors if you've tried them.

Re: 4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
That's weird.
So If we can't unlock totally just with an EDID override, how did nvidia detected monitors with built-in emitter? They read the real EDID like does moninfo? Or it's because this monitors al use sual link DVI (do they?) and we try to use hdmi?

I tried this with UHD30 and I still get the red text from NVIDIA stating I can only run in 1080p@24hz or 720p@60hz. Is there a way to do this using the 3D Fix Manager and not some janky batch files?knarFleinaD wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 5:13 am Thanks for the response and sorry for beeing late. the new projector arrived an it works, 1080p/ 60Hz 3d without emitter. for anyone interested a more detailed instruction can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comment ... hout_3dtv/

you don't have to use the batch file. start your game in 120Hz, then alt+tab out of the game, open regedit and change "stereoviewertype" to 1 in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D" , switch back to game and activate 3d manually in your projectors menu. you can also write-protect the key in registry so it won't be reset.DesertShadow wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 2:58 pmI tried this with UHD30 and I still get the red text from NVIDIA stating I can only run in 1080p@24hz or 720p@60hz. if it doesn't work let me know, i didn't play in 3d for a while because of changing the driver.

3D Fix Manager has the feature you are looking for. Go to "Settings" tab -> "Display Profiles" tab. At the projector profile enable checkbox "3D display type" and choose "3D Vision / Generic CRT". Make sure you select the projector profile on game launch.DesertShadow wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 2:58 pm I tried this with UHD30 and I still get the red text from NVIDIA stating I can only run in 1080p@24hz or 720p@60hz. What this does is that when you hit "Play 3D" button it sets StereoViewerType to 1 in registry and keeps the registry locked until the game was started. After that it automatically unlocks the registry again.
Actually hard to believe that this works because it would be too easy. But I'll try tonight and let you know my negative results then . I'll test on my Optoma UHD 40 with emitter plugged out, 452.06 drivers and Win10 20H2. It's detected as Generic CRT by default when emitter is plugged in.

Re: 4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
Ok here are my results:
NOT WORKING.
No big surprise . Just renders anaglyph (3D Vision Discover) without the emitter. 3DFM forces StereoViewerType = 1 on game start and locks the registry key. I also tried tabbing out and setting the value manually to 1: same results. It still renders anaglyph. You just can't fool Nvidia so easily xD.
To clarify: you NEED the 3D Vision IR emitter for unlocking frame sequential mode. No way to bypass it.

Re: 4K DLP Projector 1080p/120Hz without 3D Vision Emitter
Yes, I already tried colmania's approach. The procedure there was to apply an EDID of an ASUS 3D monitor which has the 3D Vision emitter already built-in.
But also here: you can't fool Nvidia so easily xD. Although you can select frame sequential mode in Nvidia Control Panel witouth the IR emitter plugged in the computer becomes super slow when running games - unplayable.
Guig2000 tried as well - you can read his results here: viewtopic.php?f=181&t=25383
He solved the issue by buying a 3D Vision IR emitter

Just curious, the 3D emitter isn't need for people who want to play in 3D with Side by Side format or not really?
I'm waiting for an HMD OLED @ 60hz, curious to know if i need this item or not.

No, not required. Only required for 3D Vision monitors and those handful Optoma 4k 3D projector capable of 1080p@120hz.

don't use your edid override. reset display driver with cru. if i use your edid i get 3d vision discover too.Pauldusler wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 11:45 am Ok here are my results:

I use the original EDID for my projector (Optoma UHD 40) which offers Generic CRT to me in Nvidia Control panel by default. I got the projector before Optoma added 3DTV Play support via firmware update. So unfortunately I can't test your use case but obviously it seems to work for 3DTV Play devices only.
You might test whether starting the game via 3D Fix Manager makes it work in frame sequential 3D mode without having to alt + tab out of the game. You have to set up the projector profile in 3DFM first (please see the post before where I explained it). Worth trying.
Btw seems like you have a Optoma UHD 42?

if someone takes the edid from my projector for a projector which is Generic CRT by default, so that it is recognized as a 3DTV Play device, could frame sequential output with changing the reg key (without emitter) then work? maybe someone wants to try.

Btw out of curiosity: The Optoma UHD 42 supports 1080p@240 hz in 2D mode. Did you try that? How is tearing with 240hz + vsync off? Shouldn't be that bad?! Input lag should be also pretty good with 240hz.
Are you generally happy with the brightness in 3D mode? On the papers the Optoma UHD 42 has a better brightness than the UHD 40 (3400 vs 2400 ANSI lumen). I think brightness of my UHD 40 is more or less ok but I wished it would be better.
