Avatars in AR/VR

Hey there,

I'm the head of product at a well funded digital avatar company working on bringing avatars to the AR/VR world - creating such a compelling character that once the hardware gets there it can almost serve as the all powerful hook to get the masses onto such system (imagine receiving a message on mobile from an avatar sent with an AR system).

Anyways, I would love to know what people think about avatars. Key traits an avatar needs to have? Favorite avatars and avatar platforms from the past?
