Re: VR events and shows worth visiting
Well, some shows I'm going to obviously recommend are Immersed and Immersed Europe.
The first Immersed was held in Toronto in November, 2014. I'm proud because the industry got together and accomplished something amazing. It had tier-one media attached, it was in Toronto (about time something happened outside California!), and what would normally be the staunchest competitors were sitting together in joint panel discussions to speak about a bright future. We had over 40 speakers over two days! They weren't dancing around the questions; they were giving both real and memorable answers:

It wasn't a huge conference. We had about 150 professionals all said and done. But they were the best of the best, and people heard fresh perspectives and ideas that weren't readily available elsewhere. The North American East Coast is an under-served market, so this too helped give the event a unique perspective and flavor.

Attendees told me that their participation resulted in government trade missions, new business relationships, media exposure they wouldn't have had access to otherwise, investment, and most importantly, a really good time.
For me personally, putting this together was empowering because it wasn't at all easy to put together. However, it turned out to be a blessing because when the event succeeded, everyone seemed to discover an inner strength and hopefulness.
It's because of the success of Immersed in Toronto that Immersed Europe is being made possible this September, and Immersed 2015 in October (Toronto). Check out the site and scroll to the bottom. These are all top quality media sites and reputable organizations helping make this possible:

More to come of course!

Neil

SVVR - for sure.
SIGGRAPH - for sure.
Game Developers Conference - VR tends to be a component, so I'd put this on the list.
E3 Expo - It is growing on me. I find it's a harder conference than the others.
Consumer Electronics Show - for sure.
The B.I.G. Summit - for sure. It was easily one of the most unique events I've been to (never seen a DJ behind a business presentation before!).

Neil
