TechTalk: OLED, virtual reality and wearables - the top tech prospects for 2015
But what about wearable TV? Virtual reality headsets, which allow you to view content and play games in a virtual 3D space in front of your eyes have been around a little while but have yet to hit mass market. That will change. Social titan Facebook spent a staggering $2 billion buying Oculus Rift, a leading VR firm.
Announcing the buyout, Mark Zuckerberg said: “When you put it on, you enter a completely immersive computer-generated environment, like a game or a movie scene or a place far away.
“The incredible thing about the technology is that you feel like you’re actually present in another place with other people. People who try it say it’s different from anything they’ve ever experienced in their lives.”
You can be sure Facebook will be pushing the tech hard, while Sony is readying its own ‘Project Morpheus’ set which will work with PS4.
