Yeah, that is one beast of a card. I'm afraid to upgrade, though, seeing as even the 8800GTS has issues in S3D with the NV drivers.pixel67 wrote:Would love to see how this bad boy does in stereo...

From the Benchmarks it seems like the CPU is slowing the GPU down. In 1080p the advantage becomes noticeable, but some games don't show any improvement.
Maybe this card is designed for S-3D use

Well jeah, but who plays in such resolutions???Freke1 wrote:"...delivered the best bang for the buck at 2560x1600 and with high quality (16xQ) antialiasing at 1680x1050. Overall increases in the average frame rate at these settings ranged from 57% to 92%."
Now that's a decent raise.
And who notices the difference between 40 and 60FPS???
It might be better in S-3D, but at the moment it has just too much power - except you buy it for Crysis and want to run it on 1080p...
or are forced to use DDD driver - which got better recently, too...
Also: look at the Watt numbers... It will be raising your power bill... and it will loose value untill the S-3D driver for it is released... so it's not realy needed right now

Crysis runs at 5 fps (without stereo) if I set it to very high settings with my 8600 GT so I would appreciate the increased performance if I upgraded to a GT200 series video card.
However, I don't think I'm upgrading anytime soon. I'm getting a bit tired of upgrading every few months. I'll probably just wait for the next card that will again be more powerful and that will support DirectX 10.1. In the mean time, I'll play games on medium or low settings or I'll play on the xbox 360.
EDIT : 5 fps is at a resolution of 1920x1080.

Yikes Tril, an 8800 card is available for less than $100! (~$90 for an 8800gts 320mb G80 core, or $140 for an 8800gt 512mb G92 core).
On topic, check the reviews on the new AMD 4850, holds even with a 9800GTX for $199 (nvidia is said to be dropping the 9800gtx to $199 as well), can't wait to see what the higher model card from AMD will do!
I might be wrong, but I thought the AMD/Ati cards have generally had less transfer over the PCIe bus and less CPU utilization, both good in my book.

Yeah, that new 4870 I think is better than even the GTX 280. I mean, when have you seen Nvidia render something like this in real-time?nubie wrote:On topic, check the reviews on the new AMD 4850, holds even with a 9800GTX for $199 (nvidia is said to be dropping the 9800gtx to $199 as well), can't wait to see what the higher model card from AMD will do!
Guess it will be ATI in my next rig. We are finally free from Nvidia's bondage!!!

I just bought the BFG GTX280 last night and the Tridef drivers work perfectly with it. There are definite performance improvement vs my old 8800GTX but I haven't run any formal benchies yet. More to come later today as i continue to put it through its paces!
