Beck's concert - it'd be awesome with a Rift!
I haven't seen anyone link to this posted here yet, but definitely check it out if you haven't seen it:

It takes quite awhile to load the HD version, but it's one of Beck's performances captured with 360 degree cameras and binaural audio and head tracking capabilities via webcam. It's pretty phenomenal - not necessarily just this performance alone, but the suggestions of future implementations of this setup. Of course, the first thought that came to mind was "This would be incredibly awesome with a Rift!" I think the only thing it's really missing at this point is the stereoscopic 3D.
But with the Rift getting out in the hands of devs within the next couple of months, it'd be incredible if more sound and tech engineers would film concerts in this manner. It's pretty immersive just watching it on my laptop screen - imagine how awesome it would be with a Rift on, looking around 360 degrees in the environment, while realistic binaural audio is being fed to my brain.
Gizmodo has an interview with Chris Milk, the director, and he goes into detail about a bunch of different topics and touches slightly on 3D and HMD'S. interesting read: http://gizmodo.com/5985368/this-is-the- ... -a-concert
I wonder though - 2D content displayed on the Rift in an environment that is intended to be rendered in 3D, like this video --- that wouldn't feel incredibly jarring or out of place though, would it? Would it just feel like normal except with a lack of sense of depth, besides visual cues?

What if you could physically walk around in the concert hall, and walk to the bar in the back and go chat with some other avatars attending the concert?

Cool concept, even though the site took forever to load.
Would be awesome to view something like that on the Rift, but maybe with more dynamic content.

Would be really cool if that camera in the middle, right next to the performer, was actually stereoscopic 3d instead of 2d. I think it would almost feel as you were standing right next to him then.

But that may be because I'd never heard of Beck anywhere else.

Wow Fredz, very nice listing!Fredz wrote:And here for a list of other immersive videos :

I uploaded a Chrome extension for streaming videos in VRPlayer.
It's not working with all videos yet and there's still a lot of work to do but it's usable..
The beck concert is working but not the one from Muse..

Thanks. I'll need to clean the list a bit and organize it, it's quite a mess for now.StephaneLX wrote:Wow Fredz, very nice listing!
I've made another one for 360° images that is better organized :

Is that just for 360° images where you rotate on the spot, or do you also want 360° images where you rotate around an object?

I don't have my Rift devkit yet, so I'm curious: how many of you have tried the Wide FOV 3D videos listed here? I'm wondering how closely the fisheye lens of action cameras like the GoPro matches with the warp applied by the Rift.Fredz wrote:And here for a list of other immersive videos :

As in, does it look correct if you watch these fisheyed videos unwarped with the Rift?

There's a few threads on this. Search for 360 Video.

Thanks, but it's not 360 video in particular I'm interested in. In fact, the videos I'm working with have no use for the Rift's head tracking feature. The view is locked forward, and pans by the camera man's whims.blazespinnaker wrote: Search for 360 Video.
And I found this thread by searching for video.
