Sharp’s hand in 3D display

Documents reveal the company’s parallax barrier 3D tech
Multiple reports suggest that electronics group Sharp will be the provider of the 3D display used in the next Nintendo handheld, the 3DS.

And it’s believed that Nintendo has opted for parallax barrier technology for its upcoming device – set to be revealed at this year’s E3 event.

Parallax barrier technology can switch between 2D and 3D and, as Andrew Oliver explains, the 3D display can be viewed from different horizontal angles.

Develop has uncovered documents from Sharp on its own parallax 3D technology, of which an abridged version can be found below.

(Nintendo has told Develop that it will not be commenting on the handheld, or even 3D gaming, so speculation surrounding the technology remains unconfirmed.)
