Prometheus is a very big, very expensive science fiction film set aboard a futuristic space craft that's packed with all sorts of fascinating technology, from a machine that can automatically perform surgery to a startlingly human-like android named David. So in a way, it only made sense for director Ridley Scott to use the newest technology in flimmaking-- that is, 3D cameras-- to make his new film, which is set among the terrifying alien creatures that 3D has been capturing since its earliest days.

I'd already bought the ticket to see this in 3D tonight, but it's good to see this review.
Fingers crossed I like it as much as the reviewer!

I went and saw this movie and it was pretty awesome. Great prequel to Alien, but leaves plenty of room to speculate and also open for a sequel.
One comment though is I disagree with the reviewer in this article. The 3D was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I went to a VMAX (think only slightly smaller then IMAX) screening and, while most of the movie was amazing and were many scenes (particularly at the start) where I felt that I'd only been more immersed by 3D in IMAX, during the movie there were many times when we got a close up of a characters face and it would be really flat. This was probably no more then the majority of movies that have been released in 3D lately for the scenes that were affected, but more noticeable in this movie because there were other scenes with characters faces in close up that had really good depth. It's almost as if they had two people filming, one who knew about 3D, and one that had no idea (stolen from other recent features maybe).
I think that the fact that there are character close up scenes that don't totally flatten the character shows that it can be done and hope this is an area that is focused on perfecting in future since it's been a real bugbear for me with pretty much all the 3D movies. I have a theory that it is happening because the cameras are being zoomed in without appropriately changing the separation to compensate for the foreshortening and may be happening in processing after the footage has been filmed. They really should just stop using zoom and get the cameras in closer!
If you're considering going to see this, then please don't let my little niggle prevent you or make you decide to watch it in 2D rather 3D, but I thought I would share my experience. This really is one of the best 3D films out there (mostly) filmed in live action 3D, but still a little way from perfect.

Can't wait for the sequel... or next prequel... or whatever you want to call it.
