I believe only the 6870 and 6850 have 3D Blu-Ray hardware support ( http://www.amd.com/us/products/technolo ... dware.aspx ). With Nvidia they have support on the GTX 400 and 500 series. I know I had to purchase a GTX 470 specifically for this reason. I had no problems with games, but 3D Blu-Ray was choppy.

Actually, this raises an important question for me. I want to buy a Blu-Ray disk reader/writer. Do I need to buy a specific model to work with 3D technologies? I don't think I need to record 3D formatted Blu-Rays (yet) - I'm thinking more for backup purposes.
Regards, Neil

The actual drive does not need to be specially made for 3D. Pretty much any 2X BD-ROM drive will do. I recommend at least 4X, as that is what I am using and what I can confirm to be working. In terms of burners, its probably the same situation. However there is no available consumer software currently (I know of) that will burn an MVC formated 3D Blu-Ray disc. You could always burn in 1080P side-by-side, which I believe you can do with Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus.

Yeah, the GTS 450 will work as you already figured out. The cheapest card that is supported for 3D Blu-Ray playback is the GT 240, which you can get for around $80. However that won't do much good for 3D gaming.
