Hi all
I've been off the 3D stereo scene for quite a while and as I can see all kind of drivers have shown up so it is confusing, so if you would be so kind to tell me can I use my eDim shutter glasses on ATI video card and CRT monitor
Here's my PC:
vga ATI 1950 GT
eDimensional wired shutter glasses
Samsung 959NF CRT monitor (120Hz@1280x1024)
just to say, I've been using 3D stereo last time with 6600GT vga so i know how it looks
I've tried drivers from eDimensional site which were named "for other than nVidia graphic cards" and result was strange: a screen has become blured like sand was on the screen and when seen threw eDim glasses a 3D effect was... strange... not even close to nVidia's stereo... also 3D games weren't 3D at all...
Any help on this subject would be great!

hmm strange. what games did you try? In my experience, while with a huge memory leak and very out of date the eDim drivers actually offer more options than the nvidia ones.

I've tried it on:
Pro evolution soccer 2008 - no difference if I turn 3D view on or off...
Battlefield 1942 - wont start if a ED driver is on
Oblivion - no 3D effect, but scanlines appear if I watch threw glasses. If I remove glasses a thin scanlines are barely visible... also if i increase separation only a cursor separates but ingame envoirment doesn't...

I get signature in bottom left of the screen saying "edimensional directx8/9" and also a women voice says if edimensional driver is turned on or off...
i can see that drivers are active but 3D effect isn't good at all...
strangest thing is that the separation is trying to be achieved through scanlines where one row is for right eye and other for left with visible black rove between them...
as i remember, on nvidia there were two whole but separated pictured for each eye...

try installing the different driver versions- 4.00, 4.25 and 5.00- maybe one of them will work (uninstall previous version first). In my experience the only way I cound completly remove the ED drivers was by dual booting.

That means its running in field-sequential mode, not frame-sequential (commonly called page-flipping) which is what you probably remember. There should be a button on the dongle to activate "line-blanking" mode which is what you would need to view the interlaced image you are getting. Good luck man, I haven't got those ED drivers to do anything aside from crash my computer.
I would suggest picking up a Nvidia series 7 card (used for cheap) as it will be compatible with a lot more games than the ED drivers supposedly support.

The eDimensional dongle does not have any buttons. The glasses support a few modes but they are selected in software by the apps (the driver and the activator) from eD.

have these glasses worked with this screen before? could be the screen.
otherwise if you run a game, turn on the driver and hear the female voice say "ED activated" and after that the error you described and no 3d then i think your glasses are damaged or something.

yeah, I was aiming for that solution but problem is that 7950GT is first card as strong as my 1950GT and that card new cost around 155$... But 9600GT comes around 165$ which then would be a better buy but then ATI 4850 which is much stronger than both of them has price of 195$ (used). So for 40$ i get a plenty much more power but same 3D support
It is simply not the good time to cross on nVidia card. but that's a different subject

Well I have Heard the ATI Cards are Not that Good with Stere0 3D. When I 1st got my Glasses I had bought a Radeon 7200 and Some Games would NOT work at all mostly All games but Sometimes I would get a 3D Effect in the menus only like with EECH but it would Always CTD the game??
Your solution is would be to get a GeForce 7900GTX or similar card. I bought a 7950 GT OC and 3D works Flawlessly!!
