Stereoscopic player already possesses the capacity to play any format on almost any stereo setup. So if we have a established method of universal video playback, then why hasn't someone written a stereoscopic player clone and turned it into a plugin so 3d can be streamed? Youtube is already halfway there by encoding video into various formats, which is evidence that there is a genuine interest in streaming 3d, so then what's been keeping this from happening?

YouTube3D looks pretty good on my Zalman Trimon. Just wish full-screen worked.

3D vision is compatible with nothing, the question is not Quote: Why can't 3d be streamed through a browser? but Quote: Why can't 3d be streamed through nvidia?

The issue about stereo3D content is that there is no standard way for website to tell your browser "hey this picture/video is stereo 3D, here's the left view, here's the right view, please display it for me".
Some displays can be used straight by the website designer like the Zalman monitor, but it's quite complex to achieve and not perfect. But other displays like iZ3D or the nvidia geforce 3D vision system cannot be directly controlled from a website. iZ3D requires to display something on the 2nd pannel outside of the browser window and the nvidia system requires special interaction with the driver (requires a plugin).
It's too complex this way. Website designers have other things to do than to support each display with tailor made code for each piece of S3D hardware. With a universal format, it becomes up to the hardware manufacturer to produce drivers that display the universal format, and the website designer can just focus on his content.

Are there any attempts being made by the 3d display industry to create a standard? I dont see how blu-ray and stereoplayer can display 3d on any monitor but browsers cant.

Indead there is no standard but also there is no information. For instance, I am looking for a method to display left/right images on nvidia cards using 3d vision, But I will could not achieved that for several weeks. Do you know how nvidia system could be used and interaction can be established with the 3d vision driver manually?

Technically this could be done, but it would require a custom plug-in. Web standard HTML/Javascript or even Flash would not have the access to do this. It gets even more tricky with Nvidia 3D Vision since this would also have to communicate with the video driver, meaning the plug-in could only be made by Nvidia and not a third party. So while it may be possible, its unlikely this is going to happen and even if it did I doubt it would gain a large penetration.

I recall the Windows XP driver supported a special rectangular side-by-side stereo texture format which involved some kind of stereo tag on the last row, but I can't find the documentation anymore. There is an extended version of NvAPI which is only available under NDA, and it probably includes an updated version of stereo API and documentation for properly rendering stereo textures and video. Check http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nvapi.htmlhttp://developer.nvidia.com/object/gpu_ ... guide.htmlhttp://developer.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo_dev.html

Nvidia announced that in a future driver update, they will support youtube 3D on 3D Vision. Probably at the same time that they update to allow 3D Blu Ray.

Youtube 3D is 7 months old now and still no plug-in in sight. iZ3D had a partial work-around system to get it working for the iZ3D monitor before the feature was even publicly released (requires Vista/Win7 and works in fullscreen mode only)
