Post by Dom »

I am trying to take screenshots of blu-ray 3d movies and I can't. I tried with fraps, nvidia capture and they won't do it. Also I tired print screen.

I've never done it before, how do you sceenshot blu-ray 3d playback?

Don't think you can screen cap HDCP protected content without some sort of hacks.

Maybe you could try Stereoscopic Player which should be able to decode the MVC codec of Blu-Ray 3D (although not in hardware), but you'll probably need to decrypt the file before as cybereality said.

I don't think this can be done legally, so you are unlikely to find a standard app that will do it.
ie. DRM gets in the way of everything for consumers who just want to do the right thing and buy legit!

AnyDVD can do this and it's a standard app. I don't know the legality of the thing, but it seems pretty fair to me to be able to make a screenshot of a movie you bought.

Yeah I was using powerdvd 11 3d with hdcp enabled. I never thought about using anydvd or stereoscopic player. I'll have to keep an eye out for anydvd or the decypter from dvdfab. I wonder if I could get away scott free using them. I wonder why HD content is so precious. Seems like its a loopy fruits system.

It was the same thing with non-HD content on DVD, they used the CSS encryption system to protect their videos. Even on VHS there was MacroVision to prevent analog copy of videos. It seems they'll never learn...

But with DVD you were able to take screenshots with any regular program like PowerDVD.

Not necessarily. For example Total Media Theater 5 (which can play DVD and Blu-Ray 3D) can't capture images from standard 2D DVDs when they use CSS protection¹ and PowerDVD 11 Ultra can't capture images from 3D DVDs². I think it's probably more related to the fact that support for MPO, JPS or PNS output was not considered to add that much value to these products in regard to the additional work (time + money) required.

¹From the Total Media Theater 5 manual :
"Note: The Capture function is only available for DVDs without CSS protection."

²From the PowerDVD 11 Ultra manual :
"Note: this feature is disabled during the playback of Blu-ray Disc titles and DVDs in 3D mode."
