I saw the Vivitar 720P 3D camcorder 790HD & 12MP camera T135 at Target for $99 ea. Anyone know more than Google does about these? The lack of info on the packaging and the one manual I found online makes me think they will only do red/blue anaglyph video. SBS would be nice.

Hmmm, never heard of them before. Maybe they are OK, but who knows?

T135 has at least two lenses, producing at least true 3D, btw also video!

Here ist the right image of the 3DCamcorder
http://www.vivitar.com/products/2/digit ... /dvr-790hd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have no clues why this image of the same product shows only one lens:
http://www.target.com/p/VIVITAR-5MP-HD- ... A-13724333" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
--------------------------------

Btw: Someone in photo3d or 3dtv-yahoo-tech-group has seen an ad about two new affordable sony 3Dvideo and 3Dphoto/videocams in the range of 1200 usd(3DVideo-cam).
Maybe someone can dig through these links:

http://www.stereoforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=1707" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

no need to check the other post, just work through the first one where all new links are listed.

The Sony camera and camcorder they talk about have been available for almost a year (4, January 2011 for both). They've already been discussed here in several threads and you can buy them on Sony's website :
- Sony MHS-FS3 camera ($249.99) aka "3D Bloggie" ;
- Sony HDR-TD10 camcorder ($1499.99).

Well SCREW me...

You guys may have "read that it only does anaglyph" or that you've heard it might... well I found out the hard way. This piece of garbage (the 790HD) ONLY does anaglyph.

I don't understand it... they take the time to build a true stereographic camera with the two lenses, the sleek design and the somewhat efficient functionality (I didn't hate the camera itself per-se)... and they load it with garbage firmware that actually records your video directly in Anaglyph (red/blue) leaving the user no choice but to use anaglyph glasses.

This is like vivitar saying "Yeah, we sell this 3D camera and we make absolutely sure not to make it clear.... that it's designed NOT to work with one single real 3D TV on the market. Not one."
What kills me is the effort required to save the video in ANYTHING else than anaglyph and offer the user conversion options would not have been much work... in fact it probably would have been LESS effort than to build this horrible built-in anaglyph encoder. Doesn't justify 89-99$ price tag in any way.

Finally I returned this cam. It was used for a grant total of one minute, put back in the package when I found out it was a retarded product and shipped it back.

So, yeah... avoid this piece of crap. Get an Apitek i2 instead. A bit more expensive but it's a real 3D cam with real 3D firmware that doesn't think we're stuck in 1976.

It especially killed me when I found out it encoded directly in anaglyph... even on the physical packaging this is absolutely unclear. They even go as far as misleading you into thinking it could have a parallax barrier LCD (which it does not) by saying, on the package, "3D effect on the screen!".... but by this they mean you see 3D on the LCD when you wear the anaglyph glasses... I can make 3D effects appear on paper using a blue & red crayon that way, too. What a load of false advertising. I'd deem it the biggest scam on the 3D market right now. There's some bad 3D TV's, there's some bad computer software... but I've never seen something this inadequate and intentionally mis-advertised.

tech specs for the camera
Image
http://www.vivitar.com/products/1/digit ... vicam-t135

$99.99
Video Resolution
640x480(VGA)
320x240(QVGA)

if this was 5-10 years ago I'd be somewhat interested I think - this is perhaps a competitor for the Fuji W1. However once you have a Fuji W3, with all it's downfalls (the video quality (per camera) is mediocre at best and the the battery life is funny so you have to buy extra batteries for anything remotely long) is still my top pick for now since I haven't really seen an alternative (though there was this one chinese camera I think)
still, 720p video and a nice stereobase is currently still very rare)

Here is a video comparison of the Fuji W3 vs. Panasonic TM900 vs. Sony Bloggie 3D in that order:

To me the quality of the video looks better on the Bloggie than the W3, that's also what the author said in another forum ("its videos are clearly inferior in every way to the Bloggie videos"). It's a bit shaky but the author said he later found the correct way to handle it.

He also said that the advantage of the Bloggie over all the other 3D cameras is its small form factor (cellphone size) which allows to take it anywhere and shoot inconspicuously.

The downside is its small interaxial though, which is not adequate for all scenes, but will probably look better on a 3D TV than videos taken with the W3. To me it looks like a good competitor to the W3 still, and for less than half the price ($249 vs $600).

Look on eBay and you will find deals from time to time. I got the W3 for around $200.

I bought mine while it was fairly new, it was half the price of the W1 here in Sweden so still a relative bargain. Right now it's around what cybereality said on Amazon, both COM and CO.UK. Just saying.

Also, I guess it's out of production? At least it's not available in any stores over here. With that said, lets hope CES brings interesting news :3
