Simple DIY Viewer for all VR/AR/stereoscopic content

Post by bornstedt »

Hi All

I recently designed a simple mobile DIY HMD that anyone can build for with a little effort and works for all mobile platforms which is perfect for the quick viewing of any stereoscopic content whether it's VR/AR or photo/video content. I also built a free companion iPhone App "TinVR" for users that like to capture, share and view stereoscopic photos.

I have done several local Make & Take demo's at some of our local VR based Meetup groups here in Boston, MA and it has been well received and thought i would share with the MTBS3D community which I have been following for a few years now.

I hope you enjoy it and please provide feedback! If you have any pressing questions please contact me directly through my website as I only have time to visit these boards a few time per month now due to time constraints.

Regards,

Brian O

Hello and thanks for your response as I know you are a very active in this space and have a full understand all the current tech/software.

It all works surprisingly well in both FOV and resolution considering the materials involved. As an initial supporter of the Oculus Rift and having tested all other HMD's since, this headset is still my preferred method of quickly testing any new VR/AR mobile content. Once you dial in and build your TinVR headset with the correct IPD setting (Due to a more narrow exit pupil for pinhole lenses), it is much faster and easier to test new content as you you can see and operate your phone while wearing the headset unlike other HMD's as it's not affixed to phone and works at any distance. (Within 6 inches is for stereo viewing of content. Beyond 1 foot, you can see things as normal).

I look forward to you building and testing the device & free App and would appreciate your feedback. If you visit our Instructables page, we are currently offering limited FREE kits which will facilitate the process of building this device.
