An interesting development in VR Space, as Google seem to be keen in dipping its beak in vr waters.

Though there are plenty of project out there in wild using mobile phones for virtual reality. Some had nested its roots from very much this place only.
its interesting to see that MIGHTY GOOGLE has now considered mobile phone vr as medium they found them self interested in to.

while making cellphone powered VR Hmd FOV2GO is as OLD as SEP 2012.

The key is in timing.Now is time when plenty of WQHD (2560X1440) devices started to appearing in market (Vivo Xplay 3S/ Galaxy S5 Prime/ Oppo Find7/ LG G3) which can give Crisp and Amazing Fidelity after magnifying display multiple times. Now we have powerful and nearly 2012 laptop grade processing power
in mobile phones with SoC like Snapdregon 600/800/805 Mediatek mtk6582/6592 which can handle beautiful OpenGL vr games in sbs format. Having more pixel packed screens in
more publicly accessible pricing is major factor here.

Now as Google is freely distributing this Cardboard Kits in their developers conference, Google I/O, at Moscone Center in San Francisco on Wednesday we can safely assume three things.

1) This Cardboard is humble try to see the reaction of developers while luring them to develop apps for smartphone VR.
2) Google wish to develop new 'cash cow' for their play store as more and more people are buying powerful mobile devices cheap cardboard and two magnifiers is all they need to begin with.
3) Google may come out with their Smartphone Adepter VR HMD like Durovis Dive / VrAse with more better optics and highly Ergonomic Design at challenging pricing (Very low possiblity)

At least vr content for smart phones is assured for all DiY, Fov2Go,Durovis.......Many more.Now with toolset for distortion handling and ui ux guidelines all stuff being officially google supported. Win win for smart phone developers as its more easy now any way unity was already vr friendly from long time now.
