Don't look down - extreme VR video just in!
I thought the MTBS3D forum folks might be interested in a short video just uploaded which shows some of the astonished reactions to the Oculus Rift 'Virtual Vertigo' experience we created for Digital Shoreditch.
The world was built entirely using Unity and MiddleVR.
You can watch it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oqazo3ZEnY and you can read about how it was produced here - http://inition.co.uk/case-study/future- ... experience
We designed the experience as a test – to ask if virtual reality could fool people’s senses even they knew they were in a completely safe environment. Judging from the reactions you about to see, it clearly does. Enjoy watching some of the more extreme reactions, especially after the trick we play at the end!

Saw this around the web, very interesting. Thanks for the video. Do you plan to release this as a demo so people can try at home? Although most people will struggle to get it set up perfectly, I presume you just need a plank, rift, kinect, a fan and your software? I'm sure a lot of people would love to try

Thank you for your message baggyg
We are glad you liked it. Because of all the extra kit required we decided to to release it. However, we are holding our first Oculus Rift/VR Meetup group next month where people will be able to try it and also share/demo their own Oculus Rift/VR experiences. Are you based in London at all?

I presume you mean you are not releasing it.inition wrote:Thank you for your message baggyg

Unfortunately not near London- based on the mainland mostly. It's a shame since I think a lot of people would have enjoyed this (Already have everything needed). However I can completely understand you wanting to control the setup to ensure the best experience.
I look forward to your future projects.

I *LOVE* the red "haptic feedback device" on the floor, that effectively lets you feel the in-game beam edges with your toes. And the fan for outside wind simulation. Excellent use of VR props there! Of course, it needs positional body tracking to work right, such as a Kinect... I plan to "steal" this idea.inition wrote:... Early on Palmer did talk in a few videos about stage ninjas on a VR playground moving generic props around, so it's not really new.geekmaster wrote:I plan to "steal" this idea.
Perhaps with a solution like this you could manufacture the needed props in near real-time?

This intrigues me. I'm Brighton based, and this sounds like something I'd be very much interested in. Where can I find out more details?inition wrote:However, we are holding our first Oculus Rift/VR Meetup group next month where people will be able to try it and also share/demo their own Oculus Rift/VR experiences. Hey! Thank you for your note. We now have the first date planned - July 24th in London. It would be great to see you here. The first one is about what people want out of a Rift/VR Meetup and looking forward to making this a regular meeting where we can explore VR together and share demos.
You just need to sign up on Meetup.com. Search "Inition"
Hope to see you there?

And because I know the internet loves easy links:
http://www.meetup.com/London-Oculus-Rif ... er-Meetup/
Sounds great. How strictly is it "for developers"? My wife and my friend may be very interested in attending, but neither are developers.

This is what it would look like if Palmer would try this demo

Hi,
I think the Virtual Vertigo demo is great. I have searched for a download but it seems that it was never released to the public.
Is there a free or pay version ?
I wonder if there is any "clone" of that game under a different name ?
Any hints please ?
Thanks.
