A fulfillment center in Europe may bypass the onerous extra costs and hassles. Don't know if this is true or not, just 'may'.

European and Asia fulfillment centres are really good news.

It shows future planning and we should have confidence that Oculus and the future of VR is here to stay.

Perhaps they will use Amazon? Much better than a fulfillment centre based in the US.

Yes a little delay on the dev kit v1s.

Much much less delay on Dev kit v2s and Consumer Rifts.

This is a start up business venture with great aspirations.

I got nothing, but I've been manually checking every few hours for the last two weeks

I almost fell off my chair when I saw the magical word 'processing'. Btw, I bought an assembled kit, the $300 one.

WiredEarp wrote:@ all the kiwis: I'm in Auckland. Good to hear so many kiwis are into VR. Is one of you the person who outbid me on all that Virtuality gear a year or two back?

I have another Rift coming (20xxx) as well. It does seem to me they are sending them in order, at least the initial batch all seem to be < 500 or so. I hope to get my 20xx one within a month (allowing a week or two for customs and duty etc which I know will screw me).

@ KBK: Thats some sneaky stuff to know about the tax. Shame that it wasn't done like that with these Rifts. With shipping (which is included in the tax amount) the Rift will come in about $50 over the 'no tax' cutoff price (around NZ$350 last time I ordered something).
Yeah the duty will most likely be around $100, assuming they're including the shipping costs on the packaging. I'm in Auckland too, in Albany.

Order 200x to the UK is now marked for processing!

*vibrates quietly in anticipation*

Also, RE the European shipping centre, as I read Nate's post, this is a work in progress, i.e. these first batches will still make their way to backers via the direct method, shipping / duty and VAT charges and all.

Order 540 now processing :D

Wonder what sort of delivery times we're looking at. I'm only here until the end of next week, so if it arrives later than that I'll be looking at having to wait until June to get my hands on it :(

Seems pretty good for International.

Much better than I expected. The only downside is that now my hopes are too high, and I'll be sitting by the door for the next week and a half.

I heard somewhere that you can register with UPS My Choice (http://www.ups.com/mychoice/) and you will get an alert with your tracking information even if Oculus do not send it to you. But it looks like USA only at the moment, is that right?

I couldn't find any mention of it on the UK website, under account settings after logging in, or through Google. The standard registration page assumes the US as your country, so it would seem it's sadly not available for international orders.

The sales page now has a tracking number for me (under the shipping address). Tracking information on the UPS website says "Out for delivery" so I will probably get it tomorrow :o

Order number #16xx (unassembled kit), and based in The Netherlands. The package was posted on the 28th, so that's pretty good shipping speed!

Damn... :( That means that the whole European Fullfilment center is not real or not working as supposed to. Because if oculus did actually amass all rifts in its center in Europe and then post them to us Europeans from there we wouldn't pay import tax.

You paying tax means that they send it to you directly from the USA (or from their factory in China) and so we will get charged the 70 pounds of import taxt

They are working on the Fulfillment center, this was a unassembled backer and they were as far as i can tell sent direct to them. For Assembled backers we will have to wait until the center read before ours are sent out, unless i ready Nate's post wrong( Which is probably true).

They are in the process of opening it up, so I expect mine to be delivered from inside Europe. Current deliveries are still from the US iirc.

How do they work out £50+ for tax? There is no duty listed, and $300 is about £200. That's around 27% tax??

My calculation is £47.25 with no duty. Don't forget, the shipping charge is added on to the product value for calculating VAT.

$300 - Rift
$57.20 - Shipping (what I was charged to England)
20% VAT
=$71.44

or £47.22 at the current exchange rate, plus the brokerage charge @ £11 is £58.22

I guess maybe the shipping was different to N Ireland.
