Intel WiDi 3.5

Post by EdZ »

Intel have announced their latest version of WiDi. Relevant to the RIFT is the inclusion of integrated USB with HID support (tracker) and reduced latency (60ms). That's probably at the outer end of acceptable latency, but is getting very close to an all-in-one solution for unrestricted RIFT use without a backtop setup.

No mention whether latency goes down at lower resolutions (or if they cherry-picked the 720p latency, and it goes up for 1080p).

I've never quite understood the magic behind wireless interactive video technology.

Basic DVI cables can pump about 500MBps - which is really bloody quick! Even with H.264 and some very quick processing surely latency and quality have to be hit hard...

But yeah, WiDi or WHDI and LiPo batteries are a way to go, I think :)
