I'd play that- the blackness obscures the black lines between the pixels

Yeah, it looks great, which I guess is to be expected when so many of the assets they used were from EVE. Even if they aren't planning on making it into a full game, I hope they'll get around to releasing it as a tech demo to the public.

I'm really surprised we are not seeing more tech demos from established developers. Great way to get free publicity.

That looks very high quality. Im so glad major developers are supporting in this way, I think it will be a big help.

I really hope they release it. I love Eve's atmosphere more than many other space opera games I played.
Someone puts pressure on them please.

it seems to be a great game but if the release it next year, this game will fight against a 8 millions dollar budget space opera rift game.....

I don't think this would compete against the massive MMO Star Citizen, but as it is (a small team deathmatch game), it would be a hell of a lot of fun. Kudos CCP, please bring it to the public :]

CCP could well be using this to gauge interest, I doubt they would have shown the demo at all if they weren't very interested in supporting the Rift. I'm guessing a lot of AAA developers are at the 'wait and see' stage, which to be honest is good news for indie devs like myself. We'll have at least a few months to get in on the market before we're pushed aside.

For what it's worth, I think space combat shooters will be ten a penny once VR takes off. We won't have to wait too long to experience this sort of thing ourselves.

Interesting stuff, more coverage:

However i'm still more excited for Star Citizen.

Looks good! I hope they release it (and soon!). I really enjoyed Eve Online (played for 2-3 years), and have no doubt that these guys could deliver an epic game!

I think for this I wouldn't even need a storyline... I'd be happy to just fly against waves of bots or in multiplayer mode, just for the fun of it. They should really make this a free-to-play game like TF2.

IF they were to link it in with their other games we could provide the cannon fodder for orbital battles in the same way as Dust does for terrestrial ones :P Maybe that's what they're thinking too.

When (if) they ever release this, I sure hope they add some interactivity inside the cockpit. The interface looked to be mainly eye-candy at this early stage.

I can seriously see this & Dust being Oculus ready in approx. 2-3 months time.

but hey , a big thumbs up.. this is truly promising.

According to the article, it is only a few devs initiative on their 20% do-what-you-want time.
If it attracts enough attention, maybe they will release a simple game, but I doubt they will go the Dust-like road. Dust is going to vaporize a lot of money from CCP.

Hi everyone, I'm one of the programmers on this project. Glad to see the enthusiasm from you all and the team is preparing to post some information on the project soon, but right now we need some rest after a crazy week.
Here's a clip someone made of the keynote reveal and trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCZZQKND5WY

Awesome! Hopefully "post some information on the project" means release early beta to Rift owners ;)

I don't think it's your fault buddy, there are only so many ways to say 'this looks cool, you should release it!'. :P

Out of curiosity, I'd be curious what sort of controller people would prefer to use when playing these sorts of space sims. The people in the videos seem happy with a joypad but I've always played these sorts of games with a joystick. I also quite like mouse-driven controls (when done right) but I have a feeling that won't really gel with the rift head tracking.

Oh we did think about joysticks, having one IRL and one in VR that moves the same way is going to be a powerful thing. Ultimately the decision for a gamepad was because of ease of use and easier to setup on the Fanfest stage, ie. no table in front of players.

Oh thank god for joystick support! :)

What about Force Feedback? Surely a significant proportion of those who own joysticks at all, would also have FF ones.

Curious about how one would use FF in a space combat sum though.. Probably only for impacts.

Sounds awesome! I didn't mean to imply you were using the wrong controller or anything, I was just wondering what people's general preferences were. :)

My personal preference would always be a joystick and if we do more with this project I will personally make sure that will be supported properly ;)

Can't wait to hear some more info on this project. Right now VR market is only starting to emerge and every demo / early product is bound to get a lot of attention. EVR looks stunning and I hope you guys make it public.

Thanks for the link! I'll be keeping an eye out for that "information on the project" :)

I really do hope that you consider releasing it - we appreciate that it's essentially a tech demo, a proof of concept; but many of the most compelling experiences with the Rift right now are just tiny demos or mods/hacks. Even though EVR may lack the polish of a fully-fledged game ccp would be accustomed to releasing to the public, as it currently stands EVR would be one of the most polished and compelling experiences available on the Rift right now. I believe there is strong potential for good publicity and interest in EVE as a result. Just something to mull over.

... also I really want to play it, GIMME GIMME GIMME! :P

There is an similar Project posted in the Oculus Dev Forums:

First Law

it has a playable Demo:
http://rjevans.net/firstlaw

It has no Multiplayer (yet?) but it's free and I personally prefer the cockpit style in this one than the one in eVR

[EDIT] ooops, just found out there is already a thread about first law here on mtbs: viewtopic.php?f=140&t=17357

I can´t wait to get more information on this project, I really hope you guys are going to continue developing EVR.
I think everyone in the MTBS3D community would love to test EVR and give feedback on it.
