Oh, I was hoping the keynote would be more like "This is a Rift dev kit like the ones we just shipped a few days ago to all the kickstarters". :(

HipHopGamer: Makes up news about Halo 5 supporting Oculus Rift, and is then very excited about the news about Halo 5 supporting Oculus Rift. :P

I would be, but I didn't enjoy watching 8 minutes of video only to find out it was a "what could be"... I already do that in my head every day ;)

Anyways, I very much appreciate the notification!

Also, don't act all innocent, you're totally to blame for this Halo 5 rumor. :P

You really have to love HipHopGamer's enthusiasm about the Rift. I don't think anyone is more excited than him.

Someone should pass the word on to the Kickstarter comment section, to calm their worries. (Some of them are getting antsy)
At least we've had some intermittent comments from Palmer and Dycus since the last kickstarter update, while those poor souls have been left to dry if they don't lurk this place. :P

Yeah, but you know, my wording makes you think it'll be longer, thus lowering your expectations. ;)
And heck no, I don't start rumors! Hip hop dude is just saying stuff.

I want him to do the next Oculus press tour, because with all due respect to Palmer, Dycus, Nate, Brendan and John no one quite sells the rift like he does.

Well if you ever decide to do a string of infomercials for the Rift, you know who to have for your pitchman. Actually, it might even be funny to really do an over the top one for april fool's. Would let you get away with showcasing all sorts of additional non-viable features.

Glad to hear about the forthcoming update. I don't care what it's about, as long as it's not that the development of the dev kit is on indefinite hiatus

Without investing in custom glass, the use of 7" panels just overall makes good sense. It's not substantially bigger than the 5.6", it's practically an industry standard size with plenty of manufacturers, and has a lot of room to grow in terms of resolution. Not to mention the bump in FOV it can provide. :)

The only thing that surprises me is that there are already a few 1080 phones, but no 7" tablets at the resolution. I hope manufacturers don't keep on looking at it as strictly being budget tab territory. A Nexus7 HD can't be too far down the road... I hope.

Out of curiosity, when would it make sense to use two smaller displays? Is anyone keeping an eye on small LCD/OLED screens?

Also, does it make sense for Oculus to have an additional part of their company be one that provides do-it-yourself-HMD kits so people can go their own way if they can afford it or want to save up for it, like people going the triple monitor route -all sharing the same driver? Besides the body and mainboard and general connections, providing interfacing connectors for popular phone screens seems very handy.

I've been looking into Microoled.com and they make low-power 1280x1024 0.61' screens. Great color but very cost prohibitive and when I read that you can only expect a good 2000 hours currently that burst my bubble. I think they are still quite a ways away from anything affordable.

Two 3-3.5" displays would totally make sense. Unfortunately nothing good and cheap with high resolution seems to be available in this form factor currently. I think this will change with screens being used for camera displays/monitors etc...

Agreed - there are a lot of unhappy antsy people over at the kickstarter comments. I only found this place because I scoured the internet for all Oculus / Palmer info I could find and stumbled across MTBS3D :)

I have forum search results for both Palmer and Dycus as browser favourites, so I can immediately see if either of them have posted anywhere....
... is that creepy? :?

I NEED NEWS!

Too bad I'm not back in Australia yet, or before Wednesday would mean in the next 3 hours. But since I'm in France, the update could be anytime in the next 12 and a half hours. :-(
Maybe I should check kickstarter, just in case...

Pressing F5 as many times as you can will in fact make the update come out faster, and not overload the server.

Figure of speech will in fact be an actual truth, not figurative. Or just that, an obvious metaphor of enthusiasm for big news. ;)
