Star Wars Episode I: the Phantom Menace 3D

Post by Chiefwinston »

Well I had low expectations with this one. The Empire Strikes Back is probably my favorite movie of all time. I love the Star Wars movies and I recently bought the blu-ray set. The Phantom Menace is a 3D conversion. The 3D is very weak. The show seamed a bit dark in my viewing. Their were no scenes that grabbed me. It was really quite a dull experience. I do however, feel this will look alot better on my home 3D HDTV when the 3D blu-ray is released. I'm more impressed with my 2d blu-ray version on my home theater than the theater 3D release. So here's my score.

Chief's score card:
Story: 6.5
Special Effects: 10
Music: 9.0
Jar Jar binks: 0
3D: 6.0/6.25 (I think I may have seen some 3D. but I'm not positive.)
Kids/Adult Movie: Yes

Final Score: 6.75
I would say- see this one on a nice home high definition full HD 3D set-up. Or possibly see it on an IMAX screen if possible. As painful as it is I'm going to give this a thumbs down.

peace

I was tempted, but I was able to overcome the powers of the dark side and managed to avoid seeing this movie in 3D. However, did anyone catch the Robot Chicken Star Wars marathon? It was priceless!

I haven't seen this yet, but based on what I heard Lucas has failed. Big time.

Yeah, the 3D was cardboard cutout type, like a bad 3D movie from the 1950s.
A few scenes were really good, but it gave me the feeling that there were separate teams that worked on just one type of scene because the scenes of the trade federation guys talking in close up looked great, but the rest of the movie was blah. :|
I hope they get the guys that worked on Star Trek: Into Darkness to do the original trilogy and don't spare the pop-out!

PS. Of course Episode I was filmed, 2 & 3 were digital so maybe it will be easier to get some CG enhancements into those!
I came here to chew bubblegum and to see 3D...and I'm all out of bubblegum!
