Kinect headtracker

Post by Mitbekommer »

I have a possibly very reliable headtracking idea.

Mount a camera or even better kinect on your hmd. If you identify a point in space you can - when the camera moves - identify the position the user is in. Using the kinect you could actually detect forward and backward movement, so you get a headtracker.

I am sure this has been done.

Do you know more?

See the PTAMM / Visual Odometry thread for work along these lines. Kinect cameras run at 30 FPS which is considered a bit slowly (but workable).
