Razor OSVR hdk2, HTC VIVE & Oculus Rift hmd, i got one now!!

Post by Dom »

Hey, so I ordered a OSVR hdk2 hmd and got it setup now. It took me a morning to get it working and I still have to tweak it a bit. I could not get depth to work on the ir camera tracking, only left right and up down, so I was a bit worried but i'm sure it will work sometime.

I got this hmd up and running with SteamVr and played a bit of Project Cars in Vr. There were a few errors at first but after I canceled them and started again it worked good and running Project Cars in the horizon I could see the screen door effect a bit, so I am worried that this will show all the time, but I think I need to lower the brightness some and it will lower the screen door effect, I think.

Over all I am pretty happy with this hmd and can't wait to hook up my steering wheel and play dirt rally. I want to try pool nation vr too but I am not sure how to play that with just a controller or if that will work, i'll have to see.

Heres a video and some 3d photos of my hdk2 at my place:

Hi, I used my Olympus 3d camera for the you tube film, it only does 2d video and does 3d pictures.

I'm in contact with razor support to try and get those bundled games. They never gave me a cd key yet so I have not played them.

I have not tried any thing else yet except for Project Cars because my ir camera stopped working the first day I had my hdk2 so I ordered a new one and should be here today or tomorrow. I still have to hook up my racing wheel and fine tune the screen door effect.

I will post more in the coming days as then I will have more time playing with it all working, ir camera and headset.

Hi, just an update. So I hooked up my racing wheel and played some Project Cars and it works pretty good! :P

I bought dirt rally and could not get revive to work with it yet. And with this razer osvr headset I cannot get Vr direct mode to work yet, I guess theres some things wrong with the windows anniversary update but mostly it works good.

Heres a video showing my setup

Hi, I'm probably not going to be sim racing all the time, but I am not really sure what other good games there are for Vr, I looked at steam vr store but I am not sure what games are good and not. I just ran though them quickly and I will need to take a closer look.

I am thinking adventure games will be good, like a tomb raider Vr or something like that with good graphics, I really want a broom stick flying game, but that's a moon shot.

Here goes small list for you...

http://www.osvr.org/featured.html

Showdown is interesting..Being tech demo for RIFT
OSVR compatible too!!(May be showdown is free too, give it a shot)

Elite Dangerous is even more interesting since RIFT & VIVE BOTH SUCKS AT THIS GAME
RIFT because of GOD RAYS (Halo effect). and HTC VIVE because of blurry visuals in text also
little amount of god rays that are particularly distracting in this game.

Since OSVR HDK2 Does not use Fresnel at all that makes HDK2 worthy contender of this game, provided
Elite Dangerous do properly support OSVR HDK2 and do not cause compatibility issues. OSVR page mentions
*Available to Play Through SteamVR, now what that * is for??

Hi, so I finally got my new ir camera today! Now I can have depth 6dof positional tracking and its working now properly, I had to do a reg edit in windows to get it to work with the ir camera.

I also got those two bundled games today too, Decent Underground and Radial G : Racing Revolved. I also have InCell Vr, Poly Runner Vr and MSI Electric City.

Poly Runner is kind of cool, you got to collect circles and avoid hills and obstacles.
Radial G is okay, its a race game going around a round track in the future, I did get a bit nauseous going fast around almost upside down. It feels real.
InCell Vr is kind of like Radial G except its about a virus that you have to stop in the brain or blood stream. You go around a vein or track and collect proteins and nucleotides or something like that before the virus can attack. This game looks real good and very color full.

I could not get Pool Nation Vr to work yet, I think I need controllers for it to work, I'm not sure.

I can't believe I got it all setup now, I just need games to play now and some controllers

Elite Dangerous is real compatable with osvr I think, its one of the listed games on the osvr homepage (experiences)
I'll have to buy it soon, I been spending allot of money on this stuff lately. Spent almost 70 dollars on dirt rally and pool nation vr a few days ago.

@Dom, Awesome!!

Head Tracking appears good by looking at video.
How is that VR BOX over shelf, are you still using it?
or suspended after going full blown VR?

My Moto G Gen1 is pretty old now, Its still working nice but no more upgrade after ANDROID 5.1
so kind of stuck in there. Holding on buying new phone, as i am eagerly waiting for GOOGLE DAYDREAM.
I have seen the video and appears something on par with GEAR VR which is big deal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo3GTYSFhzw

Since Google is partnering with many phone makers including Xiaomi (its now being made locally in my country)
(*My many friends has Redmi Note 3 http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_3-7863.php SD650 Rockks)
i am expecting $300/350 phone would run it expecting cost of VR Device and Controller around $75/80
if happen to be true, would surely go for it.

Back to video,
poly runner looking arcade and there is minimal world design.
I think this game can work in cardboard too if they ever wish to port.

Still enjoyable beyond doubt.

When ever you get ED, upload YT too. :)

One more precious finding i am sharing with you here..

1) If you want to watch 3D movie VR box is good
2) If you want to try real nice VR then VR box Greatly SUCKS..

reason being black frame you see around the device display.Scene appear as far
and more like 3D tv at distance..

I wish to suggest one nice device if you still like Phone VR, Though being in HONGKONG
it may take longer to reach to you, but not that expensive to invest in to..

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Original-Xiaomi- ... SwFdtX0-Nt

If you can find it in your country exactly same then go that ...

It has wonderful optics (Anti dazzle lenses) and with device 5.5 inch and above, with touch button
real Cardboard 2.0 support which other Chinese plastic vr cases don't have. With no frame around
display its fully immersive. Right Optics with Right Focal Length most important thing in VR.

I have not used my Vr Box in a few weeks or so. I actually bought one for my co worker for his birthday.

I put on that Vr theatre to watch 3d movies, I have Jurassic World on my phone now. Some of the google cardboard demos were okay but I had a hard time finding a game that was good. It is nice that theres no cords in the way.

This Xiaomi Vr device looks nice and I might have to order it, thanks for showing me it.

Nvidia is supposed to have some new tech for Vr phones for better gfx, iray tracing I think. They have an app.

Day dream might be pretty cool cause they have a motion controller and good headset along with better software. My next phone might be one of those for daydream, they would be real fast.

Does ED work absolute smooth?
Did you find any tracking loss or Jumpiness?
How is pixel visibility?
Did you seen any other artifacts or anomalies?
Does it work out of box or you need some tweaking?
Is this full version you purchase or trying Demo?

I know its kind of tough game as its not just arrow keys and space bar to play, it involves many data interpretation
co-ordinates setting, map reading, flight trim and bla bla bla ...

Its much SIMULATOR than Arcade so yeah its tough..there is learning curve though, eventually you will either Love it
or you will say THIS SUCKS..BADLY. Only two out comes, there is no .. 'Man, Its okk...'

Hey,
1. Its absolute smooth with my GTX 670, AMD 6 core cpu, 16 GB ram
2. There was a bit of jumpiness at the start but not really when I played inside the game, it tracked real nice
3. Pixel density is GOOD, I cannot see screen door effect in this game and it looks like your really in the game, its clear with HDK2
4. No, I never did see any anomalies or artifacts, The game looked normal and nothing happened other than I could not blow up those can barrels which should of exploded.
5. This is the full version of the game, I paid 39.99 for it along with GunJack for 5 bucks.

I like this game and was amazed by it before I bought it, I seen demos of it playing in Vr and people always went to this game to show off their Vr headsets.

Hey Dilip , I bought a new Nvidia GTX 1070 and now that I loaded Elite Dangerous the tracking is jumping around lots. I have my ir camera on usb 3.0 and older Nvidia drivers from june 7, so I don't know whats causing this jumpy ness cause it wasn't doing it before with my old gtx 670 a day ago.

I tried to calibrate the headset and change the sensitivity too in elite dangerous head tracking options and its still jumping around, I wonder if its from Nvidia or what it could be :?: I can't play elite dangerous like this... :(

Does it only happen with this game ?

I had something similar happen to me recently. The tracking was lagging and jumping in Oculus Home and Virtual desktop.

The computer was on since many days ago so I thought that a reboot might fix it and it did. After the reboot it installed a big Windows 10 update and it took a long time for the update to install during boot and rebooted a few times. I don't know if I simply needed a reboot or if the pending Windows 10 update was causing issues but after rebooting everything was fine.

Hi, I just tested if Elite Dangerous was the only game and I think it is. I loaded project cars and the tracking was smooth in that game. Its still jumping around in elite dangerous and only after I upgraded video cards and changed drivers.

I contacted Nvidia today too and they said to try 368.81 drivers but it never did anything, its still jumping around. So as it is I cannot play elite dangerous yet cause of the jumpiness, its to distracting.

I even tried different usb ports and still nothing, i'll have to look online somemore about this problem, maybe there is a fix.

You asked if there was jumpiness Dilip, was that something you have seen before?

I found that ED works with the headtracking normally in the game but training it jumps around, so I cannot train until it is fixed and I might be stuck in the game not knowing what to do.

Allumette trailer is quite amazing, you must have lots of fun.

I have important question in mind. While one in VR movie How director can handle point of Interest, Events and Main Plot?

As it is common that some important event of plot in VR movie can get missed out, while audience is looking beautiful sky or
furniture in scene other thing that might have caught their attention.

Which is opposite to normal cinema where there is a frame which is in front of audience and they are always looking
in one direction towards the screen.(*Unless they are not there for movie ;) )

In VR Movie, How can one set events and story in motion while being assured that their audience
is well aware of what movie is conveying ? (I mean main plot)

When I was watching this movie I was looking around lots, around corners and to the sides cause it looked interesting and neat. So I might have missed some things but there were also pauses where there was not acting going on until a character walked onto the scene.

There's also sound to, so you will be able to hear what's going on in the plot (main story) too as long as you can hear it.

This movie places you totally in front of most of where the action takes place and they said that standing is best but I sat down. I'm going to watch it again.

Hey so I upgraded my pc and now its running a Intel Core I5 6500 with 16 GB DDR4 ram @ 2133mhz, I got the Asus H170-Pro motherboard and Also a CoolerMaster Seidon 120v water cooler for the I5 cpu. I spent another 650 dollars on this hardware. Total for everything now is 800 hmd + 650 video card + 650 cpu ram motherboard cooler upgrade, so its around 2100 dollars now just for Vr and good Vr btw. This is supposed to be budget Vr gaming too I thought.

Heres some pictures of my gaming system with the side panel taken off.

i5 and 16gigs of Ram with H170 Pro Motherboard is just intelligent purchase.. You will proud your decision over time for sure.

Why on earth you need that Water Cooler for CPU, i5's just don't heat up.

I never heard even fan ('stock' the one Intel provided with CPU) whining of my i5 Since i purchased even under maximum load like
playing witcher 3, or Dragon Age inquisition in full detail.

Water Cooler for CPU is wastage of money, unless you are planning heavy over clocking, but i5 do not that much over clock
also results are not that compelling to do so and risk warranty.. So its just that WoM.

Yeah, I'm kind of done with watercooling after two bad experiences. Luckily it never killed the computer, but it seems air cooling is just much more reliable.

Water cooling does look very cool though (pun not intended).

Yeah I know the water cooling was not needed and probably is a waste of money since I could of used the stock cooler. When I was at the store I asked about their coolers and I was thinking about a smaller aftermarket cooler (a little bigger than the stock one and better) but I did not see that and the sales man said we have this coolermaster seidon 120v and I saw the price, it was 88.99.

So I thought the price was okay and in my budget, I wanted the cool factor too ( the clean look) so I needed it. I also never had water cooling before and never knew people had such problems, I only seen how nice their rigs looked and no one ever said "hey watercooling sucks and I'm not doing it anymore".

My cpu does only go to 35 Celsius full load and 20 idle with this water cooler so I'm happy. I just hope the pump lasts for a long time as others on newegg said their pumps died after a few months, so i'm not sure what to expect yet.

Yeah, in my current rig I used to have a Corsair water cooler and the pump died after about a year. On an older rig I had a Cooler Master water cooler. I'm still not sure if it was a pump failure or what, because it just slowly got worse and worse (though in this case it lasted about 3 years before I had to replace it). Not trying to scare you or anything (Happy Halloween..?). When water cooling is working, it's great. It just seem the consumer AIO coolers may be somewhat cheaply made.

@Dom
There is good news for you

http://store.steampowered.com/search/?s ... upport=103

Steam Now has dedicated OSVR Category
I hope over period of time things will more stream lined for OSVR (or Steamlined ;) )
here expect OSVR consumer release now!

Before that Razer must plan VR Controllers!!

Fusion between PS Move and HTC Controller could be great and cost effective both.
Small PS Move style wand with IR boll on top for relative tracking in space
(since they are officially packing now IR Tracking with new HDK2 kits)

Yeah :!: This is real good news. I got an email from razer saying steam lists osvr now too.

If razer plans controllers they will need a new camera too I think cause this camera is for sitting only. I'm thinking Vr gloves might come out for osvr.

I've noticed steam vr is a bit buggy with osvr atm. The steam devs need to bring steam vr out of beta and make it more stable. Everytime I close steam vr I have to "end task" steam vr server in task manager too and lately steam vr says my headset is not connected and after a few restarts it works.

By the looks of this maybe its just on my computer (not sure) but I thought they were dropping osvr support a few weeks ago, Glad they aren't. :o

Re: Razor OSVR hdk2 hmd, i got one now!!

Post by Dom »

Hi, I have a problem with my osvr headset now. When I connect to steam Vr it says 301 error "Something happened that shouldn't of". This error came out of nowhere because steam vr was working normally before when I first build this new computer and I even reinstalled windows to see if it was an OS error and still this 301 error.

Doing a search on the web shows things that I have tried or don't need to do: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/ ... t_working/

https://forums.oculus.com/community/dis ... g-properly
Some one here thinks its razer synapse but I doubt it because it worked before but I will try do disable it, I have a razer keyboard and mouse.

Right now I cannot play Vr until this is fixed, I think steam Vr needs updated, I'm not sure.

UPDATE: So I fixed the problem now and can use Steam Vr, it was due to a location path file that I had to delete. In steam under Steam Vr "support" it shows what all the error codes are and solutions to fix them, so I followed it and now Steam Vr works again. Its still a little unstable though. Some people say its USB3.0 on asus motherboards and others say its conflicting software. My osvr server program takes longer to load than it did with my other computer though, maybe its the chipset or USB drivers, I'm sure windows 10 will fix this since my hardware is newer.

On a side note, I did try the HTC Vive at the Microsoft Store and really liked it. Room scale is so immersive and the controllers are so COOL, they track so good and everything I seen about the vive looks good. There was not skipping or judder in the tracking system at all, it was like I was actually there in Vr. The FOV could get better though but was not that bad.

Here I am playing Gunjack today, Steam Vr is finally working again. I bought a game called Thick Air, but I can't get it to work yet, has a fullscreen problem with osvr atm. Looks pretty cool in the demo video.

Re: Razor OSVR hdk2 & HTC VIVE hmd, i got one now!!

Hi so I've been having problems again with my HDK2 OSVR headset and I contacted OSVR support, steam support, Microsoft and user forums on steam and I could not figure out the steamvr error 108/125/301 errors that I am getting. Somehow steamvr does not recognize my hdk2 headset anymore with the software that they have with the OSVR server and steamvr plugins, So I gave up for now!

I bought leap motion to go along side my hdk2 and it works with pinchdraw and I can see my hands in Vr which is really COOL.

So today I went an bought a HTC VIVE and got it all hooked up and its working good, I have it in the living room and played a bit of "sports bar" vr pool and am gonna get some other shooting games for steamvr. So I am really happy to have the VIVE working and in my home but it was expensive. $1200 bucks for this headset, but its probably worth it. Having the controller is best now to use in games.

Hi, so I installed my HDK2 OSVR headset on my workstation pc and got it working with steamVr. :D I am happy now that I have this headset working but I have to tweak this computer somehow to speed it up. I have both the OSVR sever and leap motion server runtime running and its taking 60-70% of my CPU.

My system specs is: AMD fx-6300 3.6ghz 6 core, 16 GB 1333mhz ram, MSI gaming motherboard with usb 3.0 ect. Nvidia GTX 960 - I have 3d vision monitor on this computer and another 32 inch monitor, so 120hz 24 inch benq, 32 inch lcd hdtv monitor and the OSVR headset, 3 displays working together. It runs a little slow on some things but not that bad.

The camera tracking 6 dof works good but when I use the leap motion the camera loses tracking for some reason, I may need to place the camera higher up, not sure yet.

I got the tracking working good now, I had to lower the leap motion bandwidth setting in the control panel of it.
I also got leap motion tracking as Vive controllers in steamVr like shown on this website: http://www.vrspies.com/realitycheckvr/l ... -to-guide/

Now I can play some sit down games in my comfy office chair and try and get leap motion to work good and maybe once Microsoft releases their new windows update I can check out some productivity things with that and explore the world. :o

So I built another pc with some old parts from my other computer to use with my hdk2 instead of my workstation. I was gonna do this in the summer but thought this was a good time too. I spent 389 dollars on this pc since I had the cpu motherboard and ram already. This computer should be faster than my workstation by a little so its all good.
