Mitsubishi WD-60C9 vs. 450 series samsung

Post by Daemon »

I am considering returning my pn42b450 samsung and going with the WD-60C9 instead. Both are 3d capable, the 450 series is 720p but displays 3d only in it's native resolution (1024x768 for the 42"), the WD-60C9 claims 1080p resolution.

Is this a good way to go? Can anyone give me an idea of how the picture will look sitting at 5 to 8' with 3d enabled?

Thanks

Yes if you care about the 3D feature ... Samsung does not intend to support the 3D features of its existing 3D-ready TVs, whereas Mitsubishi does.

I agree, samsung has been giving me and a few others the run-around over the quirky resolutions 3d will function with on the 450 series. They seem content issuing firmware updates to keep the channel from changing when power is turned off and seem to have no interest in their 3d consumers.

I was hoping someone could give me a first hand opinion on the WD-60C9. How well does it display 3d content?
Does the WD-60C9 require true 1080p input and not some weird offshoot (like the samsung) for 3d to function?
Does it have any weird requirements that make it a PITA to setup and may jeopardize it's ability to use future 3d products?

Also, on the Mitsubishi website they say "**As of January 15, 2009, Mitsubishi Electric's 833, 735, 736 and 835 Series' DLP TVs are 3D-Ready", yet further up in the same document, they say all mitsubishi home theater tv's are 3d ready. I cannot find any difference between the 833, 735 and C9 series in terms of resolutions required so I am confused.

Is the C9 series NOT considered "3d ready" by today's standards?

Sorry I don't know much about WD-60C9, but according to http://www.3dmovielist.com/3dhdtvs.html it is 3D compatible. All the "pre-standard" 3D DLP HDTVs use a "checkerboard format" signal which may not be compatible with the new 2010 standard, but Mitsubishi had announced it will sell a converter box at reasonable cost (rumor is ~$100) that will enable its 3D HDTVs to work with the new standard.

Thanks, it is good to know that mitsubishi is willing to work to keep their current and past customers throughout the transition to wider 3d. I will definately be trading in the samsung for the mitsubishi. Wish me luck.
