The pn50a450 (720p 50" Samsung 3D ready Plasma) works perfectly with a fullscreen native resolution of 1365 x 768 (= no black boarder and no need to wait for driver fix)..... guess buying a 720p paid off after all. What's more, with use of a miniDIN-3 splitter (I built my own) you can use your ssg1000 Samsung glasses and emitter at the same time with no interference. 8)

Hope this is useful.

Just picked up the Pn50B450 today at Best Buy in Calgary.

Man, it's huge.. lolz, A few questions though..

Do I need to use the dual bandwidth DVI cable with a DVI-HDMI adapter for the necessary
Hz ? Or do I use the other ones included in the box.

So far I can only find the 60hz refresh rate option.. Which I don't think is gonna work..

This 3DTV uses Texas Instrument dlp3D checkerboard pattern to transmit 3D image. So yes 60Hz output is enough, the TV transformes the 60Hz checkerboard into 120Hz 3D.
I think 3D is only accepted through just one of the hdmi inputs.

HI, I have this TV as well (PN50A450), and right now I have the SSG1000 shutterglasses from Samsung. My PC is old and can't play any modern day games so I haven't tried any of this with a PC and have only been playing Avatar and Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao in Stereo 3D via my Xbox 360. They are the only two stereoscopic games currently available for consoles.

The big question that I have, is if I end up building a PC that can play games, and I make sure I get a Nvidia graphics card, could I use the Nvidia drivers that people are using with the Nvidia 3D Vision glasses, but simply use my Samsung shutterglasses and emitter instead? I'm already going to have to spend a ton of $$$ to build a gaming rig, so if I could avoid having to buy the glasses, it would really help things out.

Unfortunately Nvidia restricts the use of their driver for their hardware only. You should be able to use the iz3D drivers, though, with the Samsung glasses. The iz3D driver costs $50 but there is a 30 day trial period.

What if I'm using an Nvidia video card in PC, but don't have their shutterglasses package.... still no go?

still no go, even tho it should work since the TV is the one providing the sync, not the nvidia drivers, but yeah, it wont engage 3d mode unless you have THEIR glasses connected
so just use iz3d, it has DLP checkerboard mode that works fine and is even free for ATI users

well, since you bumped this post..
just want to let you guys know that there IS a solution to using your own hardware with the 3D Vision / 3DTV Play enabled. So you can use your own glasses with your display with your nvidia card and not pay extra for their glasses, emitter, drivers, or software.

The pn50a450 is not an HDMI 1.4 TV. Its an older "3D-Ready" TV which uses the checkerboard DLP-3D format. There was actually some hack you could do, I believe, to get some version of the 3D Vision driver to support it. I just don't remember what it was, it was posted on the Nvidia forum.

There is a thread on the nvidia forums that discusses a modified inf in order to enable checkerboard output on hdmi 1.4 devices:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?show ... hl=13&st=0

from what i gather, if the samsung is not recognized as hdmi 1.4 compatible, the drivers should allow the "Generic 3D DLP HDTV" option to support checkerboard output. so one would not even need a hack or a patch or anything, just 3D Vision enabled. this should be easily accomplished with the emitter emulator without the need of 3D Vision hardware.

This TV works as a "Generic 3D DLP HDTV" in Nvidia's 3D vision driver and works with the 3D vision glasses and IR emitter perfectly. It uses checkerboard 3D and has quite a lot of ghosting, but I have been happy with it (PS50B450) for 2 years until I can buy something bettar.
