Khronos Group Launches Open VR Standard Initiative

Khronos Group Open VR Standard API MapFor those unfamiliar, the Khronos Group is one of the largest open standards organizations in the world. They are behind some of the most popular APIs including Vulkan, OpenGL, OpenCL, WebGL, and more. Open standards are important because they make it possible for content makers to support multiple hardware solutions at a time without multiplying the work by coding for dramatically different platforms.

We are very pleased to announce that the Khronos Group is pursuing an open virtual reality standard that will make it far easier for content makers to support a wide array of hardware and software solutions. Sample names affiliated with the effort include Epic Games, Valve, OSVR, Intel, Oculus, AMD, Nvidia, the Immersive Technology Alliance, Tobii, Sensics, LunarG, and more.
