Benchmarking Help, Schedule Change, Something Cooking!

MTBS needs your help!

For the past few months, MTBS has been experimenting with different types of performance hardware, but it is exceedingly difficult to benchmark accurately because FRAPS does not work with some leading S-3D driver solutions. We have tried in-game benchmarks with success, but not many games have this capability.

We have created a special forum section for members to share benchmark techniques that do not require FRAPS. We want to be able to accurately benchmark leading titles, so the more you can contribute, the better. "Timedemo" solutions would be most welcome complete with step by step instructions.

We had planned to interview Vadim Asadov, CTO of iZ3D LLC tomorrow morning, but there is a scheduling conflict on our end that makes next week a better time. Please continue posting your questions in our forums.

The good news is we have a very special guest planning an appearance next week as well, and we are certain you won’t be disappointed.

MTBS Upgrades, FarCry 2 Review, GAMMA 3D, 18% Growth!

MTBS would like to thank Igor Masin, Pam Swartz, and Syd Bolton for their continued efforts on the mtbs3D.com website. There are still some odds and ends to take care of, but the upgrade to the MTBS forums is nearly complete.

New features include attachments and thumbnails in posts, better forum tracking if you want to receive emails when threads are updated, security features, a new chat window, better search functionality to find the information you are after, and much more. There is more to come including an upgraded MTBS Nations at War 2.0 and additional fixes.

The Ubisoft FarCry 2 review is complete. Does it meet the expectations set by its predecessor? We will find out!

We are looking forward to attending GAMMA 3D being put on by Kokoromi. They have been running a contest amongst independent game developers to create experimental S-3D games compatible with anaglyph 3D glasses. Titles up for display include:
  • AltiToad - Tim Winsky and Johanna Arcand
  • BlottoBrace - Antony Blackett, Corie Geerders, and James Everett
  • The Depths To Which I Sink - Jim McGinley
  • Fireflies - Lee Byron and Joannie Wu
  • Paper Moon - Infinite Ammo (Alec Holowka, Christopher Lobay, Ian Holowka, Katie De Sousa) with Adam Saltsman
  • super HYPERCUBE - Kokoromi/Polytron

GAMMA 3D takes place on November 19th at the Society for Arts and Technology (the SAT) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For more information visit http://www.kokoromi.org/gamma3d.

Remember to participate with the U-DECIDE Initiative. YAHOO! Tech posted a story recently that video game sales jumped 18% in the month of October relative to a year ago. We are interested in learning if gamer opinion matches up to the sales being demonstrated in the market right now. Will this trend impact stereoscopic 3D gaming? While the survey will remain open until January 1st, 2009, we are revealing preliminary results at the 3D Entertainment Summit on December 1st.

  • iZ3D News, Website Upgrades, Special Thanks

Meant to be Seen is undergoing the first part of an upgrade today and tomorrow. First, our forums are being updated to the most recent software version available, and there is going to be a welcome batch of new features that will make the community more fun and practical.

Unfortunately, MTBS Nations at War (NAW) is going to be temporarily shut down until version 2.0. While this is necessary to make the transition possible, we think the wait for NAW 2.0 will be worth it. The updated NAW is going to benefit from new features and a more advanced player dynamic.

During the forums upgrade, some of the community portions of MTBS will be down, the front page of MTBS may seem disorganized, and the U-DECIDE Initiative will not be accessible. Feel free to use the services until that happens.

Here are some things to look forward to once things are back to normal:

    1. Vadim Asadov, CTO of iZ3D will be revealing the latest news about their upcoming 1.10 and 2.0 driver versions. Please begin asking him any questions you have in our forums. iZ3D is going through an exciting time with AMD, so let’s keep our ears open!
    2. We are expecting some special guests to make their appearances on MTBS shortly.
    3. A major software addition is going to be initially released and beta tested through MTBS. We think a lot of people will be excited.
    4. We have a few game reviews in the works including titles from Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Activision.

    Thank you for your patience!

We’d also like to draw attention to Dr. Tod Curtis for his review of Samsung’s SSG1000 3D DLP Glasses. We think the review is well written, and are very appreciative that Dr. Curtis made a point to link interested 3D customers back to MTBS to learn more and help grow the community. Thanks again!
